You will need a Government Gateway account to use ATWD.
The Government Gateway is designed to allow you to have any number of services associated with your User ID.
It is not necessary to create a new User ID for each service you wish to use. Therefore, if you already hold a Government Gateway User ID you do not need to 'Register' again. You may instead simply add the ATWD Service to your existing User ID.
As well as a Government Gateway account, you will need to enrol for and activate your ATWD Service. If you are responsible for several warehouses you will need to register each warehouse separately.
The enrolment process is carried out online.
Before enrolling, you will need to make sure you have all the necessary information to hand. You will be asked to provide:

Your ATWD Service will be activated automatically when you complete the enrolment process. A confirmation letter will be sent through the post within seven to ten days. This will be sent to the address of the authorised warehousekeeper, for the warehouse that has been enrolled, to acknowledge the service enrolment and that activation has been completed.
You will also be sent an Activation PIN through the post within seven to ten days. When you receive your Activation PIN, log in at the Government Gateway with your User ID and password. From the 'Service List' page follow the link to activate the ATWD Service.
Please note: A warehouse enrolment will not be usable until you have confirmed the enrolment by entering the Activation PIN. The Activation PIN is only valid for 28 days from the date of your initial enrolment request. If your Activation PIN expires you will need to restart the warehouse enrolment process again.
You can now use the ATWD Service from the Online Services page on the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) website.
Log in from the Online Services page through the HMRC website using your User ID and password.
If you have previously enrolled for ATWD you will already have the capability to submit via any available method, including the XML channel.
If you have not enrolled for ATWD, please follow the steps above regarding registering and enrolling which will allow you to use our XML Service.
