At a detailed level (known as eight-digit data), the trade statistics are broken down to 10,500 different commodities, recording trade between the UK and over 200 countries throughout the world.

Regional trade statistics were introduced in 1999 to support the economic decision-making of the devolved Scottish Parliament, Assemblies and regional bodies within the UK. These statistics provide a useful breakdown of the flows of imports and exports between regions of the UK and other countries.
